‘Peaceful’ weekend planned at Stanstead Stone Circle

Stanstead Journal - - NEWS -

Come and celebrate the Autumn Equinox and the International Day of Peace at the Stanstead Stone Circle in Stanstead on September 20th and 21st, beginning with Dances of Universal Peace on Saturday, Sept 20th, at 2 pm.

Led by Heather Webster and Munira Avenger, Dances of Universal Peace are simple, meditative, joyous, multi-cultural circle dances that use sacred phrases, chants, music and movements from the many spiritual traditions of the earth to touch the spiritual essence within ourselves and recognize it in others. Building on the work begun by Samuel L. Lewis in the 1960s, they promote peace and integration within individuals and understanding and connection within groups worldwide. This is a beautiful and sacred experience, not to be missed. All dances are taught on site. The rain location (for this event only) will be in the Universalist Church, Main Street, Derby Line, Vt. USA (right after the US customs building) so BRING YOUR PASSPORT!

Sunday, Sept 21, is the United Nations International Day of Peace. In conjunction with Unify.org and many other organizations around the world, we will be holding two group meditations in two different locations in the Stanstead area on that day.

The first group meditation will take place from noon to 1 pm at the Dell Rhiannon Labyrinths at the Weller Farm (4945 Stage Road, Stanstead East), approximately 6kms from the IGA in Stanstead. From the IGA head east on Fairfax Road for a short distance. At the cemetery turning right onto Stage Road, continuing for 4 kms or so then turn left following Stage Road across a bridge. Continue for another 2 kms or so and the labyrinths will be in the field on your left. In case of rain for this event, you will be directed to an indoor location on the Weller Farm. Follow the signs.

At 3 pm on Sept 21st, a second meditation group will take place in the Stanstead Stone Circle, this one being a synchronized world-wide event happening with other people meditating for World Peace all over the globe at the same time. The rain location for this portion of the activities is still to be determined.

Weather permitting, the activities will conclude with the formation of a Human Peace Symbol in the stone circle at approximately 4 pm with an aerial photo to be taken of the symbol. This requires a large number of people so bring your friends and neighbours. Participation in the meditation circle is not mandatory but warmly encouraged. The extra power of group meditation was proved in Washington in the summer of 1993 when a group of 4000 meditators induced a 23.3% drop in violent crime in the city on that day. Imagine what thousands upon thousands of people meditating for PEACE all over the world can do! Meditation experience is not necessary. Just a calm mind holding the intention of world peace will add your energy and power to this event. The Earth and ALL Her Inhabitants need you!!!

Please bring your own water and seating (chair, pillow, blanket etc) to these events. It is suggested to dress in brightly coloured clothing for the photo of the human peace symbol. For inspiration check out www.unify.org. Voluntary donations are appreciated to help defray expenses.
