The Woodshed Gallery presents
The Woodshed Gallery proudly presents an exhibit of photographic prints by Mark Dannenhauer and Ron T Simon with an opening reception on September 28th at 2 pm – at the Bread and Puppet farm, Route 122, Glover, VT. Mark’s portion of the exhibit is entitled “Place/Displaced II”, version two of an ongoing photographic examination of sense of place and uninvited displacements. His work features images in search of Wendell Berry’s writing studio in Port Royal, KY, of the War Relocation Center in Manzanar, CA, and of Peter Schumann’s solo exhibition of sculptures, paintings, and books at the Queens Museum.
Mark is photographer and filmmaker living in Shutesbury, MA. He toured nationally and internationally with Bread and Puppet for more than a decade. He founded and directed two puppet companies including his present dormant theater, Ninots. Mark has been documenting Bread and Puppet for the past decade, including his ongoing “Bread and Puppet: An Emerging Mosaic,” an oral history project capturing tiles of B &P history in the words of the participants. Ron’s portion of the exhibit features “Recent Photographs of Bread and Puppet.” This is exhibit is what has become classic Ron Simon format: a great observational eye, surpassing technical skill with the camera, and a constant passion for experimentation and perfection in the photographic printing process. Prints in this exhibit will be drawn from recent series of The Birdcatcher in Hell, Piero del Francesco, The Shatterer of Worlds, and circus and pageant.
Ron is a photographer and visual artist living in Montreal, P.Q. His photo work was first published in 1984 for the Nikon International Photography Contest. He published his first photo book, “Rehearsing with Gods: Photographs & Essays on the Bread and Puppet Theater,” with text by Marc Estrin in 2004. He has been photographing Bread and Puppet for several decades, with images familiar to viewers around the world.
