The Canada Sum­mer Games– Sher­brooke 2013 was the first ma­jor Games to be clas­si­fied as en­vi­ron­men­tally re­spon­si­ble, to re­ceive fair trade ac­cred­i­ta­tion, and to be awarded car­bon-neu­tral recog­ni­tion. The sus­tain­able de­vel­op­ment pol­icy and ac­tion plan put forth by the or­ga­ni­za­tion led to Level 1 clas­si­fi­ca­tion from the Bureau de Nor­mal­i­sa­tion du Québec and Car­bon Care cer­ti­fi­ca­tion from En­viro-ac­cess. This was also the first event in the world to re­ceive fair trade ac­cred­i­ta­tion from Fair­trade Canada.
