Vibrant anglo cultural offering

Stanstead Journal - - FORUM -

We are lucky that geography serves us well culturally. Apart from Montreal, we are the most blessed language minority in Canada as for the variety of cultural offerings. Since the last decade, English movies are available in Sherbrooke almost at the same speed that they are in Montreal.

We are less than a two hour drive from Montreal. Sherbrooke is a short drive away, not only for movies but also for the offerings at Centennial.

Less known is Saint-Johnsbury Kingdom County Productions, which offers quality entertainment less than 45 minutes from the border. Under the direction of Jay Craven, a renaissance man if there is one, it showcases plays, music, ballet. But located in the USA, funding is a different matter than it is here.

Saturday, it featured Pink Martini with the Von Trapps Family, next on the list is the legendary Preservation Hall Jazz Band and Big Easy icon Allen Toussaint who will join forces for the first time ever for an evening of legendary music making. It’s a weekday event, on October 21.
