Prac­tise your Fire Evac­u­a­tion Plan!

It is Fire Preven­tion Week right across North Amer­ica and Que­bec’s theme this year is Si­tot averti, si­tot sorti! Dur­ing the week, fire preven­tion in­spec­tors with the Sher­brooke fire depart­ment (SPCIS) will in­form and en­cour­age the Sher­brooke pop­u­la­tion to put into prac­tise the for­mula that in­creases a per­son’s chances of es­cap­ing from a fire safe and sound. They are: check to make sure your smoke alarm is work­ing; pre­pare an evac­u­a­tion plan; prac­tise the evac­u­a­tion plan.

The SPCIS will also be con­duct­ing fire drills in schools, day­cares and se­nior res­i­dences. It is pos­si­ble to meet with fire in­spec­tors who will be avail­able to an­swer ques­tions and pro­vide in­for­ma­tion at Costco, Thurs­day, Oc­to­ber 9th, from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm, and at both Sher­brooke Cana­dian Tires (King Street in Fleu­ri­mont and Plateau St. Joseph) on Oc­to­ber 10th, from 1:00 pm to 9:00 pm.

Among the pro­posed ac­tiv­i­ties, ev­ery­one in Que­bec is in­vited to take part in the third Grande Evac­u­a­tion, on Wed­nes­day, Oc­to­ber 8th, at 7:00 pm. All over Que­bec, fam­i­lies will hold their own fire drills and prac­tise their evac­u­a­tion plans. To pre­pare for this ac­tiv­ity, peo­ple can con­sult the web­site of the Min­istry of pub­lic se­cu­rity (se­cu­ritepublique.gouv.qc.ca) where they can find tips and in­for­ma­tion on cre­at­ing an evac­u­a­tion plan.
