Practise your Fire Evacuation Plan!
It is Fire Prevention Week right across North America and Quebec’s theme this year is Sitot averti, sitot sorti! During the week, fire prevention inspectors with the Sherbrooke fire department (SPCIS) will inform and encourage the Sherbrooke population to put into practise the formula that increases a person’s chances of escaping from a fire safe and sound. They are: check to make sure your smoke alarm is working; prepare an evacuation plan; practise the evacuation plan.
The SPCIS will also be conducting fire drills in schools, daycares and senior residences. It is possible to meet with fire inspectors who will be available to answer questions and provide information at Costco, Thursday, October 9th, from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm, and at both Sherbrooke Canadian Tires (King Street in Fleurimont and Plateau St. Joseph) on October 10th, from 1:00 pm to 9:00 pm.
Among the proposed activities, everyone in Quebec is invited to take part in the third Grande Evacuation, on Wednesday, October 8th, at 7:00 pm. All over Quebec, families will hold their own fire drills and practise their evacuation plans. To prepare for this activity, people can consult the website of the Ministry of public security (securitepublique.gouv.qc.ca) where they can find tips and information on creating an evacuation plan.
