Aresidentof the Magog area made a complaint to the (RPM) last week, believing he was a victim of fraud. The man sent $3000 in American funds to someone for the rental of a villa in Costa Rica, then discovered that the person he sent the money to did not own the villa. The money will never be recovered. People are encouraged to deal with local, known companies for these kinds of transactions.
Last Thursday night, around 11:30, a 48 year-old man was disturbing the peace on Principale West, in Magog. Drunk and half naked, the man tried to hit a police officer and was arrested. He was on probation and also had an arrest warrant out for him.
On Saturday, a 57 year-old man from Orford Township was arrested after a hit and run accident. At around 6:45 pm on Merry North, in Magog, he crashed into a car parked along the curb, pushing it onto a lawn. He soon returned to the scene of the accident and was arrested for driving under the influence.
Late Saturday night, vandalism was done all along Francois-Hertel Street all the way to Merry Point, in Magog. Fences were damaged, about twenty picnic tables and a dozen garbage cans were turned over, a bike rack was thrown into the lake, etc. Anyone with information about this crime can call the RPM or at 1 800-711-1800.
On Sunday, around 11:00 am, a officer clocked a 23 year-old driver on autoroute 55, near Melbourne, doing more than 175 km/hr. The young man was driving in the southern direction. He received a fine of $1,220 and 14 inaptitude points. The Saint Albert resident also had his license suspended for seven days.
