Henry-Cot­nam And Mal­loy Named Provigo, Robert La­fond Ath­lete Of The Week

TheBishop’s Univer­sity Depart­ment of Ath­let­ics and Recre­ation an­nounced Mon­day that Aquila Henry-Cot­nam of the women’s soc­cer team and James Mal­loy of the men’s lacrosse team have been named Provigo, Robert La­fond Ath­letes of the Week.

Henry-Cot­nam (Rich­mond Hill, Ont.) scored a pair of goals on Fri­day night to help se­cure the Gaiters first points of the sea­son in a 2-0 vic­tory over the UQAM Ci­tadins. The third year English ma­jor found the back of the net just five min­utes into the contest and again with less than 10 min­utes re­main­ing to put the game on ice. Henry-Cot­nam, the Gaiters 5-foot-3 for­ward was a threat on counter at­tacks all week­end. The Gaiters earned three points for the win Fri­day and got a fourth point on Sun­day when they bat­tled to a score­less draw with the Con­cor­dia Stingers. Both games were played on Coul­ter Field in Len­noxville.

Mal­loy (Uxbridge, Ont.) led the Gaiters lacrosse squad in a pair of con­tests in On­tario. On Satur­day night he sparked a Gaiters come­back vic­tory in Peter­bor­ough. Bishop’s found them­selves down 5-2 to Trent at half­time be­fore they came back for a 9-7 vic­tory. Mal­loy, a fourth year at­tack scored five goals for the Gaiters. The 22-year-old Bi­ol­ogy ma­jor backed up his Satur­day night per­for­mance with an even bet­ter one on Sun­day when the Gaiters faced off with Queen’s in Kingston. He scored four goals and added three as­sists to com­plete his 12-point week­end as Bishop’s rolled to an 11-2 vic­tory over the Gaels.

Henry-Cot­nam and the Lady Gaiters soc­cer team (1-6-1) will en­joy a week off over Thanks­giv­ing while Mal­loy and the Gaiters lacrosse squad (6-2) is in ac­tion on Thanks­giv­ing Mon­day at Con­cor­dia. Hon­ourable Men­tions:

Josh Quirion, men’s rugby – the men’s rugby squad played to a 23-23 draw at McGill Satur­day. He had an er­ror-free day at full back that helped keep McGill pinned in their end.
