Henry-Cotnam And Malloy Named Provigo, Robert Lafond Athlete Of The Week
TheBishop’s University Department of Athletics and Recreation announced Monday that Aquila Henry-Cotnam of the women’s soccer team and James Malloy of the men’s lacrosse team have been named Provigo, Robert Lafond Athletes of the Week.
Henry-Cotnam (Richmond Hill, Ont.) scored a pair of goals on Friday night to help secure the Gaiters first points of the season in a 2-0 victory over the UQAM Citadins. The third year English major found the back of the net just five minutes into the contest and again with less than 10 minutes remaining to put the game on ice. Henry-Cotnam, the Gaiters 5-foot-3 forward was a threat on counter attacks all weekend. The Gaiters earned three points for the win Friday and got a fourth point on Sunday when they battled to a scoreless draw with the Concordia Stingers. Both games were played on Coulter Field in Lennoxville.
Malloy (Uxbridge, Ont.) led the Gaiters lacrosse squad in a pair of contests in Ontario. On Saturday night he sparked a Gaiters comeback victory in Peterborough. Bishop’s found themselves down 5-2 to Trent at halftime before they came back for a 9-7 victory. Malloy, a fourth year attack scored five goals for the Gaiters. The 22-year-old Biology major backed up his Saturday night performance with an even better one on Sunday when the Gaiters faced off with Queen’s in Kingston. He scored four goals and added three assists to complete his 12-point weekend as Bishop’s rolled to an 11-2 victory over the Gaels.
Henry-Cotnam and the Lady Gaiters soccer team (1-6-1) will enjoy a week off over Thanksgiving while Malloy and the Gaiters lacrosse squad (6-2) is in action on Thanksgiving Monday at Concordia. Honourable Mentions:
Josh Quirion, men’s rugby – the men’s rugby squad played to a 23-23 draw at McGill Saturday. He had an error-free day at full back that helped keep McGill pinned in their end.
