Charl­ton Named Provigo Robert La­fond Ath­lete Of The Week

Gaiter­srugby cap­tain Ni­co­las Charl­ton has been named the Provigo, Robert La­fond Bishop’s Gaiters Ath­lete of the Week. He led the Gaiters to a 29-8 vic­tory over the Sher­brooke Vert et Or last Wed­nes­day night in Sher­brooke.

Charl­ton, a fourth-year fly­half was re­spon­si­ble for nine points on Wed­nes­day, Oct. 8. The business ma­jor con­nected on three of the four con­verts he at­tempted and added a suc­cess­ful penalty kick. The 5-foot-7 Mon­treal na­tive was also re­spon­si­ble for set­ting up a try scored by Mike Iz­zard

(Oakville, Ont.).

“Nic was great all night long,” said Gaiters coach Charles Goode. “He was strong in tac­ti­cal kick­ing, game man­age­ment and de­fense. He was our man of the match.”

After the vic­tory and en­su­ing week­end re­sults, Bishop’s now sits atop the RSEQ Stand­ings at 3-1-1 (17 points). Con­cor­dia is in sec­ond place at 3-1-1 (16 points) and the McGill Red­men are in third at 2-1-2 (14 points). The Gaiters now en­joy an ex­tended break as they are not back on the pitch un­til Fri­day, Oct. 24 when they host the Stingers on Coul­ter Field. Hon­ourable Men­tions Jean Gayrard (Foot­ball) – the Thet­ford Mines na­tive had an in­ter­cep­tion, three tack­les and played a strong game from his de­fen­sive back po­si­tion on Thurs­day night as the Gaiters (1-4) se­cured their first win of the sea­son, a 17-14 vic­tory over the McGill Red­men (0-5) in Mon­treal. Men’s Lacrosse The Bishop’s Gaiters men’s lacrosse squad did not have long to work off the turkey from Thanks­giv­ing week­end. They were in Mon­treal on Mon­day night to face Con­cor­dia. Bishop’s scored early and of­ten. They cruised to a 27-1 vic­tory and move to 7-2 on the year; that gives them a firm grip on sec­ond place in the CUFLA East di­vi­sion.
