De­war Named Provigo, Robert La­fond Ath­lete Of The Week

TheBishop’s Univer­sity Depart­ment of Ath­let­ics and Recre­ation is pleased to an­nounce that Ryan De­war of the men’s lacrosse team has been named Provigo, Robert La­fond Ath­lete of the Week.

De­war, a Corn­wall, On­tario na­tive pot­ted nine goals and added nine as­sists in the Gaiters two lop-sided vic­to­ries over Con­cor­dia this week. The third-year at­tack also had a strong show­ing at the Nor­wich State Jam­boree, an un­of­fi­cial ex­hi­bi­tion event the Gaiters par­tic­i­pated in over the week­end. The bi­ol­ogy stu­dent found the back of the net five times and added four as­sists in Mon­treal on Thanks­giv­ing Mon­day night as the Gaiters rolled to a 27-1 vic­tory. In the back­end of the home-and-home se­ries he scored four goals and dished out five as­sists while the Gaiters cruised to a 20-2 win on Coul­ter Field on Sun­day.

De­war will lead the men’s lacrosse squad into their fi­nal week­end of the reg­u­lar sea­son. They play at Car­leton on Satur­day night and host the Ravens on Sun­day. Bishop’s has locked up a home play­off game in the first round of the CUFLA East play­offs. A ticket to the Bag­gat­away Cup cham­pi­onships will be up for grabs on Satur­day, Novem­ber 1. Ai­den McGil­lis, women’s soc­cer – helped dom­i­nate the mid­field and con­trol the pace of the game de­spite the Gaiters two losses this week­end.

Vincent Dube, foot­ball – set a Gaiters mod­ern-day Bishop’s record with an 81-yard punt at Laval on Sun­day. Sun­ny­side El­e­men­tary’s fastest stu­dents took part in the Cross Coun­try Run at Alexan­der Galt High School on Oc­to­ber 15th. Two of the out­stand­ing stu­dents were Brit­ney Cham­ber­lain, who came in at 7th place, and Dy­lan Catch­paw, who fin­ished in 10th place.
