Happy Day for Local Loyalists

Stanstead Journal - - FRONT PAGE - Victoria Vanier, Waterville

A new road sign along route 143 was unveiled on Monday, one that will honour Gilbert Hyatt, an important Loyalist settler for whom a part of the road had been named for in the early 1990’s. Those signs were taken down in 2005, following municipal mergers in the area. According to the president of the UELAC Little Forks Branch, Bev Loomis, visitors and delivery people have been having trouble finding addresses along that stretch of route 143 between Lennoxville and Waterville because GPS systems were still revealing the road by its proper name: route Gilbert Hyatt.
