Hornibrook and Comeau Named Piper Athletes Of The Month

Stanstead Journal - - AROUND TOWN - Special collaboration Galt Media Literacy Class

HannahHornibrook and Vinny Comeau from Alexander Galt High School have been named the Piper athletes of the month for October as sponsored by the Bishop’s University Athletic Department.

Hornibrook helped lead the girls flag football team to a 4-0 record in the month of October. The speedy receiver from Lennoxville scored 12 touchdowns in four games. Every time she touched the ball she was a threat to score and her teammates followed her leadership and experience. The grade 11 student was instrumental in her leading the Galt team to the RSEQ Championship last season and they look to repeat again this spring in the second half of the season. The 16-year old works just as hard in the classroom, where she sits on the Principal’s List every academic year. The three-sport student athlete will now turn her focus to basketball during the winter months as part of the starting five on the Senior Girls Basketball team.

As a member of the Senior Boys Football Team for three years Comeau rarely gets any recognition for his play as lineman on both side of the ball. He does not play a high profile position, but his coaching staff and peers know they would not be in the RSEQ Championship game this Saturday without his efforts. Assistant Coach Matt Nutbrown said, “Vinny is a prototypical lineman, one that any coach would love to have on his roster. He is gritty, tough and is a silent leader on the Pipers Football team. He is the lifeblood of the defense and the protector of the offense.”

TheCorporation des Fêtes du 150e anniversaire de Coaticook, is uniting with the organization of the town’s hockey team, Dynamik Senior AA, for a special game to highlight the anniversary on Saturday, December 6th, 2:00 pm, at the Gerard Couillard Arena. On the program will be a game reuniting memorable players from Coaticook as well as a special show put on between periods by Coaticook’s figure skating club. Steve Proulx, a former player with the Magog Cantonniers, will be the event’s honorary president.

The two special teams being put together for the game will be made up of Dynamik players and other invited players such as Yves Breton, a player and coach of the Dynamik; Michael Riendeau, highest scorer of the Frontalieres Jr AAA; Christian Lavoie, captain and coach of Dynamik Jr AAA; and Christian Proulx, the only player from Coaticook to have ever played with the Montreal Canadiens. The special guest who will open the match with the singing of the national anthem will be revealed in the coming weeks.

The profits from the

The Lennoxville native had impressive numbers for a linesman in four games. He had 37 tackles, 7 sacks, 2 forced fumbles, 2 fumble recoveries all the while he played both sides of the ball and refused to take a play off. After finishing first in their division, the 17-year-old Comeau and his peers will look to complete their season goal of a RSEQ Championship this Saturday at 1:00 against Polyvalente Belanger from the Beauce.
