Stanstead Journal - - SPORTS - Lennoxville, Sherbrooke

T Recreation is pleased to announce that Kyle Desmarais of the men’s basketball team has been named this week’s Provigo, Robert Lafond Athlete of the Week. His Gaiters topped the Concordia Stingers 76-69 Thursday night in Montreal.

Desmarais, a fifth-year transfer scored 18 points on 6-for-14 shooting including a pair of baskets from beyond the arc as he led the Gaiters to their second win in as many games in the young 2014 RSEQ University basketball campaign. The 6-foot2 Montreal native is no stranger to the Concordia gymnasium. He played for the Stingers for three seasons, earning RSEQ all-star status each year. Desmarais added two steals, two assists and a rebound in 31 minutes to round out his stat line on Thursday night.

The Gaiters (2-0) sit alone atop the RSEQ standings as they get set to face the Laval Rouge et Or (1-1) in Quebec City on Thursday night. Desmarais sits in third place in the RSEQ in scoring averaging 15.5 points per game. The former RSEQ Most Valuable Player is also third in minutes played averaging 33.5 through two contests.

Desmarais and the Gaiters started the season on the right foot winning their first two games. Ultimately they will look to claim an RSEQ Championship and return to the CIS Final-8 for the first time since 1999 in March. They will have home court RSEQ Final-4 from March 5-7, 2015 in Mitchell Gymnasium. Stay tuned to for complete details on all the
