Sherbrooke 2013 named Canadian Event of the Year
A final honour was bestowed upon the 2013 Sherbrooke Canada Summer Games Host Society as the 2014 Canadian Tourism Awards jury named the 2013 Games Canadian Event of the Year.
The awards ceremony held in Ottawa celebrated Canadian success stories in business, event hosting and marketing. The Sherbrooke edition of the Canada Summer Games were up against Montreal’s Mosaicultures, the 300th Anniversary of the Town of Louisbourg, Nova Scotia, and Tourism Canmore Kananaskis (Alberta).
The nominees were evaluated on hosting, innovation, economic impact and legacy, all points of pride for the Sherbrooke organization.
The Canadian Tourism Award for Event of the Year is the most prestigious award received by the Sherbrooke 2013 Team and the last in a long series of regional, pro-
vincial and national awards (12) and mentions (6) in the areas of economy, tourism, sports and environment.
“Just to be a finalist in the Event of the Year category is in itself an important recognition of the quality of the Games”, said Tom Allen, Chairman of the Board and Executive Committee. “This award positions Sherbrooke on the Canadian stage and shows the rest of the country our ability to come together and host large-scale events.”
Ending the journey on top of the podium on the national stage is also an opportunity to say a final thank you to all those who were involved in this great success.
The Canadian Tourism Award is the Host Society’s second national award, having received last April the Prestige Award for Sustainable Sport Event of the Year from the Canadian Sport Tourism Alliance.
The Canadian Tourism Awards are presented annually by the Tourism Industry Association of Canada to recognize success, leadership and innovation in Canada’s tourism industry, and to reward those people, places, organizations and events that have gone above and beyond to offer travellers superior tourism experiences in Canada.
