Anyone visiting the Rock Island sector of Stanstead last Saturday would have no doubt in their mind that Christmas was near. In the morning, a live nativity scene and Christmas caroling kicked off the event in front of the Place del Monty while artisans set up their tables on the second floor, newly renovated by owner Marcel Hauben for the occasion.

“The community really pulled together to make a great event and to make it quite fun,” said Marise Trepanier, the town’s recreation coordinator who was serving hot chocolate and coffee throughout the event. People were coming and going all day, enjoying the music of Donald Patriquin, Mike Goudreau and Lise Flanders while they shopped or waited for Santa. “We might ask Santa to come earlier, next year, because some of the younger kids missed him because it was nap time,” added Marise.

Organizers and volunteers gathered for dinner, after the event, at the Café Bar Sans Frontieres
