Desmarais Named Provigo Robert Lafond Athlete Of The Week
TheBishop’s University Department of Athletics and Recreation is pleased to announce that for the third time this season Kyle Desmarais of the men’s basketball team has been named this week’s Provigo, Robert Lafond Athlete of the Week. Desmarais, a fifth-year transfer student scored 19 points on 6-for-11 shooting as the Gaiters fell 78-71 to the McGill Redmen on Thursday night in Montreal. He had five rebounds and six steals in 36 minutes of play. He scored 20 points on 7-for-12 shooting in Bishop’s 62-59 loss to McGill at home on Saturday night. He added a steal, six assists and seven rebounds in 39 minutes to round out his stat line. The 6-foot-2 Montreal native is a former three-time RSEQ all-star during his time at Concordia. Desmarais sits in second place in the RSEQ in scoring averaging 15.6 points per game. The 2010-11 RSEQ Most Valuable Player is also second in minutes played averaging 34.0 through five contests.
Desmarais and the Gaiters (3-3) sit third in the RSEQ standings. They return to RSEQ action this week on Thursday night in Montreal and on Saturday night at home both against Concordia (1-3). Bishop’s will ultimately look to claim an RSEQ Championship and return to the CIS Final-8 for the first time since 1999 in March. They will have home court advantage in doing so as Bishop’s will host the second annual RSEQ Final-4 from March 5-7, 2015 in Mitchell Gymnasium. Honourable Mention
