Smart Meter meeting tonight in Magog
Hydro-Quebec is holding a public meeting this evening, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm, at the Hotel Etoile-sur-le-lac, 1200 Principale Ouest, in Magog, to provide information about the controversial smart meters that they would like to install. At the meeting, people can learn about the technology and how they work. Residents from other municipalities, besides Magog where there has been much opposition to the meters, are welcome to attend the meeting also.
North Hatley is just one of many other municipalities who do not support the rather hurried changeover to the smart meters. At the town’s last council meeting, it adopted a resolution on the topic that had three main aspects. “We wanted to encourage Hydro-Quebec to delay the installation of smart meters in North Hatley and to encourage them to continue to research the technology to find solutions to the concerns of citizens,” explained the town’s general manager, Daniel Décary. The third aspect of the resolution encourages Hydro-Quebec to put a phone service in place to answer the questions of the public. Right now, people have to wait hours on the phone before speaking with a representative about the issue.
