We’re hard at it clearing the ice by Prouty Beach for this year’s Memphremagog Pond Hockey Classic. Frank Richardi of Lago Trattoria is back to handle concessions out of Prouty Beach during play and will be offering up a Pig Roast and BBQ at Gardner Park Saturday evening all as part of the Newport Winterfest with a bonfire and fireworks. The EastSide Restaurant will be hosting a Winterfest Banquet on Friday Evening open to the public. And Halo Foundation will be hosting a Lumberjack Pancake Breakfast from 7 am to 10 am on Saturday morning at the Gateway Center in downtown Newport.
This is the inaugural year of an expanded, international two-weekend series. We’re now offering two weekends of pond hockey on Lake Memphremagog, one weekend on February 7th and 8th in Newport, Vermont and one on February 28th and March 1st in Magog, Quebec. Four friends from both sides of the border have come together to make this international pond hockey series possible. Jean-Pierre Rancourt of Newport, Vermont has signed on as Spokesman. Phil White of Derby, Vermont, Danny Lachance of Sherbrooke, Quebec, and Eric Lefebvre of Magog, Quebec are organizers.
Stay tuned for some very big news on the naming of Memphremagog Pond Hockey’s Honorary President to be released next week as we look to grow pond hockey on both sides of the border. In the meantime, “We got Ice. You got Puck?” We’re looking for more teams to join the fun.
