Hefty fines for selling illegal tobacco
RevenuQuebec has announced the fines that were recently handed down to people who were arrested for dealing in contraband tobacco.
Jean Perron, of Magog, has twelve months to pay a fine of $76,428. On June 1st, 2011, officers with the RPM did a search at the Grand Central bar and seized 5,600 contraband cigarettes and the sum of $1,515.50, resulting in this fine. Jean-Pierre Therriault, of Sherbrooke, has two months to pay a fine of $73,875. On September 18th, 2012, officers with the Sherbrooke Police Service searched the residence of Mr. Therriault and seized 24,486 contraband cigarettes and the sum of $2,110 Canadian and $300 American.
