Hefty fines for sell­ing il­le­gal to­bacco

RevenuQue­bec has an­nounced the fines that were re­cently handed down to peo­ple who were ar­rested for deal­ing in con­tra­band to­bacco.

Jean Per­ron, of Magog, has twelve months to pay a fine of $76,428. On June 1st, 2011, of­fi­cers with the RPM did a search at the Grand Cen­tral bar and seized 5,600 con­tra­band cig­a­rettes and the sum of $1,515.50, re­sult­ing in this fine. Jean-Pierre Ther­ri­ault, of Sher­brooke, has two months to pay a fine of $73,875. On Septem­ber 18th, 2012, of­fi­cers with the Sher­brooke Po­lice Ser­vice searched the res­i­dence of Mr. Ther­ri­ault and seized 24,486 con­tra­band cig­a­rettes and the sum of $2,110 Cana­dian and $300 Amer­i­can.
