Hamel-Petit And Mclean Named Provigo Robert Lafond
TheBishop’s University Department of Athletics and Recreation is pleased to announce that Noemie Hamel-Petit of the women’s basketball team and Matt McLean of the men’s basketball team have been named the Provigo Robert Lafond Athletes of the Week.
Hamel-Petit, from Magog, Que., helped the Gaiters (0-10) in two tight contests with Laval (5-5) this past weekend. She scored 13 points and had three rebounds in 27 minutes, as Bishop’s fell 75-65 to the Rouge et Or in Quebec City on Friday night. The rookie guard led Bishop’s with nine points and 11 boards in 34 minutes of action at home on Saturday night in the 48-36 loss to Laval. The Psychology major has been a significant part of the young Gaiters squad. The Gaiters have a week off but will be back in action on Friday, Feb. 6 at home at 6 p.m. and Saturday, Feb. 7 at 5 p.m. in Montreal against UQAM (6-2).
McLean, the Ottawa native led Bishop’s (5-5) in their 72-57 win over Laval (5-5) in Quebec City on Friday night. He scored 15 points and had seven boards, four assists and one steal in 39 minutes of play. The fifth year forward was strong from the start with a lay-up right off the tip to get the Gaiters started. On Saturday night, Bishop’s fell to Laval 57-55 in a close finish. The Business student led the Gaiters again in minutes with 34. He scored eight points, had four rebounds, one assist, two steals and one block. Bishop’s has the week off but are back against UQAM (2-6) on Friday, Feb. 6 at home at 8 p.m. and on Saturday, Feb. 7 at 7 p.m. in Montreal.
