Hamel-Petit And Mclean Named Provigo Robert La­fond

TheBishop’s Univer­sity Depart­ment of Ath­let­ics and Recre­ation is pleased to an­nounce that Noemie Hamel-Petit of the women’s bas­ket­ball team and Matt McLean of the men’s bas­ket­ball team have been named the Provigo Robert La­fond Ath­letes of the Week.

Hamel-Petit, from Magog, Que., helped the Gaiters (0-10) in two tight con­tests with Laval (5-5) this past week­end. She scored 13 points and had three re­bounds in 27 min­utes, as Bishop’s fell 75-65 to the Rouge et Or in Que­bec City on Fri­day night. The rookie guard led Bishop’s with nine points and 11 boards in 34 min­utes of ac­tion at home on Satur­day night in the 48-36 loss to Laval. The Psy­chol­ogy ma­jor has been a sig­nif­i­cant part of the young Gaiters squad. The Gaiters have a week off but will be back in ac­tion on Fri­day, Feb. 6 at home at 6 p.m. and Satur­day, Feb. 7 at 5 p.m. in Mon­treal against UQAM (6-2).

McLean, the Ot­tawa na­tive led Bishop’s (5-5) in their 72-57 win over Laval (5-5) in Que­bec City on Fri­day night. He scored 15 points and had seven boards, four as­sists and one steal in 39 min­utes of play. The fifth year for­ward was strong from the start with a lay-up right off the tip to get the Gaiters started. On Satur­day night, Bishop’s fell to Laval 57-55 in a close fin­ish. The Business stu­dent led the Gaiters again in min­utes with 34. He scored eight points, had four re­bounds, one as­sist, two steals and one block. Bishop’s has the week off but are back against UQAM (2-6) on Fri­day, Feb. 6 at home at 8 p.m. and on Satur­day, Feb. 7 at 7 p.m. in Mon­treal.
