Galt wins double gold
Alexander Galt High School’s basketball program is finishing the season with quite a few banners and trophies. Winners in the ETIAC league were the Girls Junior and Senior teams, and the Boys Bantam and Junior teams. The Bantam Girls also won the RSEQ league on Sunday, February 22nd, by upsetting undefeated College Sacre Coeur in the final.
The Junior Girls basketball team, coached by Glenn Faucher, won the AAESQ Jeff Dunn provincial basketball championships at Centennial Regional High School last week. They won their first game 48 to 45 over Quebec High and beat NDL 37 to 30 in the championship game. Kaitlyn Palmer was named the tournament MVP. The Junior girls also won this provincial tournament last year. The Galt Junior Boys, coached by Caleb Page, also came home from the provincials at Centennial High School, in Greenfield Park, with gold, winning the Len Davis AAESQ tournament with a score of 48 to 40 over Centennial High School. Gabriel Andrade Poulin was named the Tournament MVP. The Galt team beat Quebec High in the semi-final with the score of 56-37.
Galt’s Senior Girls lost in the AAESQ Mcleod Provincial Championships to Heritage High School. They won their first game 67 to 64 in overtime against Heritage, then went on to beat Quebec High. They defeated Massey Vanier Regional in the semi-final cross over 48 to23 and then faced Heritage in the final and lost 53 to33.
