MRC Holds ‘Green’ Gala
Ther Memphremagog MRC held its second Gala des bons coups for the management of waste material and sustainable development. The objective of the event is to highlight the environmental actions of the municipalities.
“Unlike other contests or awards programs, this gala recognizes all the efforts made. It’s a way for the municipalities to share their experiences and to exchange their best practices in sustainable development,” said Lisette Maillé, the mayor of Austin and the president of the Comité consultative en developpement durable (CCDD).
The ‘Bon coups’ of 2014 were: Austin, information sessions; Ayer’s Cliff, improvements to the picnic area at Lake Massawippi; Eastman, fight against soil erosion; Hatley Township, Prix de merite 2014; Magog, Best management of waste; Orford Township, riverside septic installations and eco-centre; Stanstead, opening of a depot for large garbage items; Ste-Catherine-de-Hatley, Buffer zone awareness; Stanstead Township, hiring of an environmental inspector.
