Over 100 Caregivers Tap into Resources at 2015 Forum
Over 100 people attended the 2015 edition of the Forum for Englishspeaking Caregivers of Seniors in the Eastern Townships on Saturday, March 14, 2015, an event which aims to increase support for the English-speaking caregiver by connecting them with existing and emerging services and service providers. Hosted by Townshippers’ Association,
the forum was held for a second year with the support of L’APPUI pour les proches aidants de l’Estrie, the Memphremagog Community Learning Centre and the Table régionale de concertation des aînés de l’Estrie. “When you are busy looking after the needs of an older loved one living with compromised health, mobility issues, or dementia, the last thing you have the energy for is combing the countryside in search of English resources or services that you may need to help you as a caregiver,” explained Judy Lawson, forum organizer for Townshippers’ Association. “Ensuring that information was at their fingertips was the primary aim of the forum and we are happy to know that it hit its mark. Our attendees were excited to have the chance to expand their knowledge base and gain confidence from the various presenters and organizations that participated.” Forum organizers extend their thanks to all who attended, especially to Dr. Joe Schwarcz, Director of McGill University’s Office for Science & Society, for delivering the keynote address and to Micheline Roberge, President, Table de concertation des aînés de la MRC Memphrémagog and Gerald Cutting, President, Townshippers’ Association for their participation. Thanks also goes to workshop presenters Amanda Rocheleau, Catherine St. Pierre, Ian Nielsen-Jones and community police officers Patrice Grégoire, Sûreté du Québec, and Paul Tear, Régie de Police de Memphrémagog as well as the more than 15 organizations who were in attendance.
