Stanstead Junior Bowling League ends season with a flourish
Last Saturday, March 14, the kids of the Stanstead Junior Bowling League played their last games at the Stanstead Entertainment Center ‘by moonlight’, that is with lights dimmed, in a fun-filled atmosphere to mark the end of their season. Season started in the fall
with ten weeks before Christmas and ten more after, with a special Christmas breakfast and threeweek break in between. The 14 young bowlers come mostly from Stanstead but a few also hail from Ayer’s Cliff. They range in ages from 4 years old to 13, and take their sport quite seriously, bowling 3 games every Saturday morning. All give out a heartfelt thanks to Doreen Flanders who volunteers to coach the Juniors and Luc Godbout who assists!
After Saturday’s last games, yearly trophies were awarded to players whose game had most improved and kids considered most valuable players in two categories: 8 years old and under, and 9 and over. Most Improved trophy winners are those whose average has improved the most over the season. As for Most Valuable Player winners, many elements are taken under consideration, such as attitude, attendance and average score.
There was also a ‘Strike for a Bike’ prize awarded. All through the season, each time a Junior player bowls a strike, their name goes into a special box from which the winner is drawn at the season’ end. This year’s lucky bike winner was Jacob Godbout.
After the awards ceremony, kids, parents and supporters were invited to a pizza party, with about 30 people attending, concluding the season with a festive activity. Saint Patrick’s also celebrated The annual Saint Patrick’s Tournament was also held last Saturday at the Stanstead Entertainment Center. There were 32 bowlers vying for the three top prizes of $50, $40 and $30. Those went to: 1st, Paul and Linda Desrochers; 2nd, Kathy Alger and Albert Parent; 3rd to Estelle Gabariault and Roger Gingras. Congratulations to all participants!
