New Community Outreach Event During Research Week At Bishop’s University
Bishop’s University’s 10th Annual Research Week will take place next week, from March 23rd through the 28th. To highlight this special anniversary and celebrate the important research being done by Bishop’s University faculty and librarians, this year’s edition of Research Week introduces a new event open to the Lennoxville community. Wednesday, March 25, 7 pm Brûlerie de café FARO, 112 Queen Street, Lennoxville Café Scientifique: Why is it so difficult to kick an addiction?
Cigarette addiction. Alcohol addiction. Drug addiction. These are issues that span all age groups and affect one’s family life, professional/student life and social life. Bishop’s University is bringing its research expertise in this field to Lennoxville and engaging with community members in a discussion on the various factors that can influence quitting smoking/ drinking/using.
In this first edition of the Bishop’s University Café scientifique series, Bishop’s professors Dr. Adrianna Mendrek and Dr. Annie Duchesne will share their research expertise on the neurobiological and psychosocial factors that influence a person’s ability to kick an addiction, on how a person’s gender can make a difference when trying to quit an addictive substance and on how stress can impact this process.
Everyone in the community is invited to take part in this informal discussion, held at the Brûlerie de café FARO on Queen Street, in Lennoxville, to enjoy a coffee and talk. Individuals will be encouraged to interact with the researchers and bring their questions and comments to the floor. No scientific knowledge is required to participate: just curiosity in how the human body and mind work and an interest in the subject matter.
Other events during Research Week include:
