St-Bruno Native Harvey Joins Gaiters

Stanstead Journal - - SPORTS - Lennoxville, Sherbrooke

TheBishop’s Gaiters men’s basketball team and head coach Rod Gilpin are pleased to announce that recruit Nick Harvey will join them starting with the 2015-16 season.

A St-Bruno, Quebec native, Harvey knew Bishop’s was the right place for him from the moment he stepped on campus.

“I loved the atmosphere of the campus as soon as I arrived to visit,” said the 6-foot-6, 215-pound forward. “I felt it was the best environment for me to develop as a player and as a person.”

The Champlain-St. Lambert product is a hard worker who thrives on physical play. He’s tough inside, always battling for rebounds and uses his athletic frame to his advantage.

“I’m looking forward to joining the Gaiters,” he added. “I want to prove that I can make a difference right away as a freshman.”

Harvey will be studding business at Bishop’s and has ties to Gaiters’ associate head coach and former Champlain-St. Lambert head coach Craig Norman.

“I’ve only played basketball for three years; I was a hockey player before. Coach Norman saw me playing on my city team convinced me to play for Champlain. It hadn’t crossed my mind that I could play at that level.”

For his part, Gilpin is eager to have Harvey in the purple and silver.

“Nick has a great work ethic and is a high level athlete,” said the bench boss of the 2015 RSEQ champions. “He is just scratching the surface of his potential but already has good offensive skills that will continue to develop. We will need him to contribute right away after losing the guys that we did this year. I certainly think that he will be able to step in and compete right away.”

The Gaiters are now focused on school work and preparing for final exams. They will look defend their 2015 RSEQ championship with the addition of Nick Harvey among others starting this fall.
