Hatley-Stanstead Women’s Institute
TheHatley-Stanstead Women’s Institute met at the home of Irene and Gordon Humphrey on April 2nd 2015 at 1 p.m. Our hostesses Irene and Barbara had made a beautiful array of Easter goodies, consisting of Easter Basket cupcakes, Hot Cross Buns and we sang Happy Birthday to Barb Hewitt as she cut the beautiful Easter cake. The Mary Stewart Grace was said and all enjoyed a social hour. Phyllis opened the meeting at 2 p.m. thanking the hostesses for the lovely lunch and welcoming everyone. The meeting started with Phyllis welcoming and presenting new member Elaine Stone with her W.I. pin, and expressing how happy we all are to have her join our branch.
The Collect, Salute to the Flag and the Lord’s Prayer was repeated in unison. A minute of silence was held in memory of a dear member, Phyllis Knapp, who passed away in March. A Memoriam in memory of Phyllis Knapp was discussed.
The Motto: A teacher is one who takes many live wires and see that they are well grounded. The Treasurers Report was given and showed a favourable balance.
The Roll Call was answered by seven members, which was to report something interesting in other W.I. news. We had all enjoyed the jokes in the Fordyce news.
Phyllis reminded everyone that April 22nd was Earth day. We should do our part to help keep our earth clean. Also April 29th is ACWW day.
Tea, Birthday, Calendar money and coins for Friendship were collected. Jean Cass read the minutes of the March meeting. There was no errors or omissions, they were passed as read.
Sunshine Report: The sun popped it’s head out 25 times in March, with Rev. Doreen collecting her quarters for her Sunshine bank. Doreen reported she had been to visit Phyllis Knapp in early March.
