Pays trib­ute to Shirley Horn

Thenext Con­fer­ence-Con­cert of the Au­tumn Ge­nius se­ries, pre­sented by the Es­tria Quin­tet will take place this Fri­day May 1st.

On this spe­cial oc­ca­sion, the jazz duo of Louise Thibault (voice) and Jonathan Gearey (gui­tar) will give a trib­ute to the mag­nif­i­cent singer and pi­anist, Shirley Horn. This artist has worked with greats such as Miles Davis, Dizzy Gille­spie, Wyn­ton Marsalis and Quincy Jones, among oth­ers. A bril­liant mu­si­cian who has had a num­ber of dif­fi­cul­ties in her live (such as breast can­cer and di­a­betes), Ms. Horn de­cided, in the 1960’s, to in­ter­rupt her suc­cess­ful ca­reer in or­der to raise her child and to con­cen­trate on her fam­ily. De­spite th­ese nu­mer­ous chal­lenges, how­ever, she con­tin­ued her mu­si­cal ca­reer and even recorded a live al­bum with the la­bel Verve at the age of 70. Of­ten com­pared to Sarah Vaughan and Ella Fitzger­ald, this won­der­ful singer and pi­anist has dis­tin­guished her­self among the great­est names in jazz. Two pre­sen­ta­tions of this event will be given:

Pre­sen­ta­tion no. 1 at 11:00 am at the UU Estrie Church (201 Main St in North Hat­ley), fol­lowed by a light lunch.

Pre­sen­ta­tion no. 2 at 3:00 pm at the Up­lands Cul­tural and Her­itage Cen­tre (9 Speid St in Lennoxville), fol­lowed by an af­ter­noon tea.
