Border Hockey Players finish season with awards
Border Minor Hockey held its annual awards night on Wednesday, April 29th, at the Pat Burns Arena. All players were invited and they, along with their teams, were recognized for their achievements. The coaches from each team had the opportunity to also award three players with the Esso awards for most ‘improved’, ‘sportsmanlike’ and ‘dedicated’.
It was also a chance for president David Dubois to award prizes to the top winners of the skate-a-thon which was held in March. Forty-nine players participated, raising $6100. The top fifteen children were given prizes which included a bike, jay peak water slide passes, two Johnny Gaudreau hockey cards, hockey sticks and more. In order, the top winners were Alek Veilleux, Zachary Patterson, Heidi Mathers, Matthew Washburn Roy, Brady Blake, Shawn Washburn Roy and Kaysha Marie Flanders. The grand prize winner was Alek Veilleux who raised $635. The skate-a-thon ended up being Border Minor Hockey’s most successful fundraiser. The directors of Border Minor Hockey would like to thank all the kids who participated, they did an amazing job, and all the people who supported the kids. “The generosity from the community was amazing. We had a donation all the way from Florida. Thank you to everyone!” said Emily Johnston.
Border Minor Hockey will have their annual meeting on Tuesday May 19th starting at 7pm. Voting is open to all parents whose child is registered with Border Minor Hockey. There are positions available on the board. For more information please contact Emily Johnston at 819-876-2117 or at theveilleux@yahoo. ca.
