Choromondo concert coming up
TheChoromondo World Music Women’s Choir, directed by Allyna Harris, will be performing their 16th annual benefit concerts this Friday, at Beulah United Church in Ayer’s Cliff, and on Saturday at the Waterville United Church. “We always have between twenty and twenty-five members. Some have been in the choir for fourteen years while others are just starting. The women are from all around the area, we even have eight members from Vermont,” said the choir’s founder, Allyna Harris.
The concerts will include songs from Bulgaria, Croatia, Serbia, East and West Africa, France, Israel and a couple of special numbers that will be accompanied by piano. “We’ll be performing a special piece by composer Eric Whitacre and we’ll be accompanied by a teenage piano player, Nicola Tremblay, one of my advanced students.” Ms. Harris will also perform one song on the piano.
Proceeds from these annual fundraisers will, this year, go to two causes: the L’Escale women’s shelter in the Estrie, and the Tonenbee Project which provides solar cookers to the Kithuia Village in Kenya, where firewood for cooking is scarce. “We have a concert committee that selects the projects every year that we will support,” said the choir’s director.
The Choromondo concerts take place Friday, June 19 at 7:30 pm at Beulah United Church, 967 Main Street, Ayer’s Cliff and Saturday, June 20 at 7:30 pm at Waterville United Church, 460 rue Principale sud, Waterville.
Suggested donation is $15 at the door. For more information visit Choromondo on Facebook or call 819 8765682, or 802-487-9361 or 802-461-7670 in Vermont.
