OnJuly 7, 2015 at 6:15 pm, Mark Hudson, executive director of the Vermont Historical Society, will throw out the first pitch for the Vermont Mountaineers at the Montpelier Recreation Field at 1 Poolside Drive.

We would like to celebrate Vermonters in baseball. Since the game’s rise in popularity after the Civil War, Vermont has fielded its fair share of teams with loyal fans,” says Hudson. “At the Mountaineers game on July 7, we will have a small exhibit telling the stories of historic Vermont teams at the local, college, and professional level—and of the fans and the communities that supported them.”

the Mountaineers game, there will be a 50-50 raffle that will help fund programs for Vermont children to learn about their state history—field trips to the Vermont History Museum in Montpelier; Vermont History Day contest collaboration; and classroom learning kits for teachers. Giveaways will include a boxed set of baseball cards of the 34 Vermont men who played in the major leagues.
