Full Steam Ahead! Quebec Lodge Back on Track
the new Quebec Lodge Camp it’s full steam ahead! There were many unfortunate delays along the way but they were the opportunity to carefully refine the mission of the new camp and to design a curriculum that complements the Quebec Lodge Foundation’s commitment to environmental stewardship and preservation. Working with faculty and students from Bishop’s University, the Foundation has designed an exciting programme which will take advantage of the rich natural resources on the property itself and in the Lake Massawippi area. As the camp begins full operation, the partnership with Bishop’s University will continue. Current plans call for the opening of a day camp in the summer of 2016. Infrastructure and facilities for a residential camp will continue to be developed with a target of welcoming resident campers during the summer of 2017. In the interim, the Foundation will continue to consult with the Massawippi Foundation about creating a large nature preserve on the property.
While funding commitments for the new Quebec Lodge Camp had been successfully secured in early 2013, several unforeseen obstacles precluded a quick implementation of the development plans. Thankfully, the Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Quebec is now prepared to transfer the property to the Foundation. Site preparation and programme development have begun in earnest.
At this time the Quebec Lodge Foundation is excited about the prospect of bringing its dream to reality. “While it took courage and perseverance to keep our spirits up in the face of these significant delays,” noted Foundation Chair Ruth Sheeran, “we are now newly energized and looking forward enthusiastically to opening our camp for the young people of Quebec and beyond.”
