A Grand North Tra­di­tion: Lan­caster Fair to Mark 145th Year

Lan­caster Fair spot­lights agri­cul­tural ac­tiv­i­ties, 4-H ex­hibits, di­verse mu­si­cal en­ter­tain­ment, de­li­cious food, and mo­tor­ized com­pe­ti­tions

With­its old-fash­ioned coun­try flair fla­vor, the 145th Lan­caster Fair prom­ises to fill fam­i­lies and fair­go­ers up on fried dough, home­made pies and maple cot­ton candy, cou­pled with a fan­tas­tic ar­ray of car­ni­val rides, live mu­sic, and agri­cul­tural fun. As one of the Grand North’s premier events, the Lan­caster Fair, which takes place from Sept. 2- Sept. 7 on the 65-acre Lan­caster Fair­grounds, pro­vides fam­i­lies near and far with en­ter­tain­ment and ac­tiv­i­ties for all ages, high­lighted by all kinds of farm-themed fun, in­clud­ing the hi­lar­i­ous pig scram­ble, horse and oxen pulls, sheep dog tri­als and a range of 4-H ex­hibits. “One of the Grand North’s most long­stand­ing and beloved tra­di­tions, the Lan­caster Fair is about com­mu­nity – peo­ple com­ing to­gether to en­joy the fi­nal days of sum­mer,” said Shane Beat­tie, vice-pres­i­dent of the Lan­caster Fair’s Board of Di­rec­tors. “This year’s fair is jam-packed with demon­stra­tions, live en­ter­tain­ment for all ages and, of course, de­li­cious fair food and lo­cal ven­dors. We look for­ward to see­ing guests from near and far as we celebrate our 145th year of pro­vid­ing a place where fam­i­lies and friends meet.”

nom­i­nated and New Eng­land na­tive coun­try artist, Jo Dee Messina, is this year’s fea­tured en­ter­tain­ment for Satur­day, Sept. 5, at 7 p.m. Messina is a chart-top­ping coun­try singer who has been pre­vi­ously hon­ored by the Coun­try Mu­sic As­so­ci­a­tion and the Academy of Coun­try Mu­sic. She has also been nom­i­nated for two Grammy Awards. To date, Messina has topped the charts with nine num­ber one sin­gles. A na­tive of Hol­lis­ton, Mas­sachusetts, Jo Dee will get the crowd on its feet with her up­beat tunes. Krazy Koun­try Band will warm up the au­di­ence at 5 p.m. Both shows are free with paid ad­mis­sion.
