Fair Cattle

Stanstead Journal - - FORUM -

Its fair time around the Townships. This photo fits the season. Perhaps a reader can identify the men in the photo and when and where it was taken. Only one fellow looks familar. Please help.

Iwas given your name by my second cousin, Dorothy Blake, of Beebe. I have been working on Ancestry.com in order to trace my maternal family roots. My great grandmother, Lena BELKNAP, was born in 1881, according to the family bible I have. Her supposed parents, Andrew Mitchell BELKNAP and Cynthia (nee CHAPMAN) BELKNAP (both born about 1817) had eight children, beginning in 1841 up to 1863. The ninth child listed is Harriet Kathaleen BELKNAP, born 2/23/1887. Obviously, they were too old to have this child. On one census, "Lena" is listed as being "adopted". I have been unable to find any birth certificate, or any other information about Lena, with the exception of marriage and death records. She married George E. BUCKLAND who died in his 40s. Then she married Edwin PETTINGILL. She lists two different mothers on her marriage licenses. Do you have any knowledge or information about some kind of orphanage that may have been in existence around 1887 in that area? Cindy Winter, Bonita Springs, Florida levingolfers@gmail.com
