Try­outs for com­mu­nity ju­nior girls bas­ket­ball Septem­ber 13

ju­nior-age girl bas­ket­ball play­ers are in­vited to try out for the new Stanstead-based com­mu­nity team, which will par­tic­i­pate in their first tour­na­ment in Brampton, Ont. Septem­ber 26-27.

for the event will take place be­tween 6:00-6:30 p.m. on Sun­day, Septem­ber 13 in the John Mackay Gym­na­sium for girls 13-17 years of age fol­lowed by a try-out ses­sion from 6:30-8:30 p.m.

the try­outs, se­lected girls will train at Stanstead Col­lege over the week­end of Septem­ber 19 and 20, with de­par­ture for the CROWN Scout 2015 Fall Event in Brampton the fol­low­ing week­end.

Scout has part­nered with On­tario’s JUEL for this tour­na­ment. Along with JUEL and JUEL Prep teams, the tour­na­ment is ex­pect­ing to see teams from OBA, CYBL as well as teams from Que­bec and western New York. Last year, over 40 NCAA Di­vi­sion I coaches at­tended this U19 and U15 girls tour­na­ment.

team that comes out of next week’s try­outs will form the ba­sis for Stanstead’s own JUEL-as­so­ci­ated team, which, un­der the coach­ing of Mark Bem­benek and Fred Grannum, will help pro­mote and de­velop girls bas­ket­ball in the re­gion. The team will be built around na­tional-level high-per­for­mance skills de­vel­op­ment and train­ing.
