Come gather upon and celebrate Hatley’s beau­ti­ful Com­mon

Satur­day, Oc­to­ber 3rd, be­gin­ning at 10:00 am, ev­ery­one is welcome to come to the Hatley Com­mon and help plant 1000 daf­fodil bulbs gen­er­ously do­nated by the Hat­leyan Ms Loni Camp­bell. Ev­ery­one will meet in front of the Com­mu­nity Cen­tre with their spades or shov­els. If it is rain­ing, the plant­ing ac­tiv­ity will be post­poned to Sun­day, Oc­to­ber 4th, at 10 am. Re­fresh­ments will be served to vol­un­teers.

event will be fol­lowed, at 3:00 pm, by a con­fer­ence by Hatley res­i­dent and poet Steve Lux­ton who will briefly look at the ori­gins of the Com­mons, who used them and for what? What were the Bri­tish “en­clo­sures” and their tragic ef­fects? How did Com­mons come to the New World and specif­i­cally Hatley? Learn more about our much-loved and ad­mired Com­mon. The con­fer­ence will be in English, in the Com­mu­nity Cen­tre.
