Strong effort from Stanstead Select girls basketball at the NCAA event
After one try-out and a three-day training camp, 10 out of 20 Stanstead Select girls suited up to proudly represent the Eastern Townships at the CROWN Scout 2015 Fall Event in Brampton, Ont. this past weekend.
The girls battled hard in their first game against the JUEL Prep program out of London, which finished fourth in the league last year, hoping to impress JUEL league evaluators and convince spectators that the Eastern Township girls can play with the top teams. Unfortunately the team fell behind 38-44 after some controversial decisions at the scorer’s table.
The team improved their execution in their second game but once again fell to a rough and tough Advantage team. Determined to “put it all together” the Stanstead Select team played a very strong third game against ETBA on Sunday. The team made many improvements and ended the tournament with a convincing victory.
League evaluators were quick to point out the strong play of Stanstead College’s own Tania Tesson as well as Diaouda Dehkissia from École du Triolet in Sherbrooke. In addition, Johannie Lamoureux caught the eye of NCAA coaching staff from William and Mary College in Virginia, and she is very excited to start in the recruiting process.

All the coaches are especially proud of how eager the players were to learn new concepts and put them into practice on the fly, as different situations came up in the games. All of the Stanstead Select girls, as a team, were the real highlight of the weekend, giving full effort every game, being unselfish teammates and bringing lots of positive energy while getting used to playing in a new environment for the first time.
