Nicholas Ouellet wins

Stanstead Journal - - FRONT PAGE - Victoria Vanier, Stanstead

The people of Stanstead have spoken and they have chosen youth over experience. In what was a competitive contest, with six candidates running for one seat on the Stanstead council, twenty-five year-old Nicholas Ouellet received 142 votes , only one more than Georges O’Shaughnessy who has until Thursday to ask for a recount if he so desires.

“I put up signs, sent out pamphlets, and went door-todoor and met a lot of people that way. Many said that I was the only candidate who had gone to see them. I was also told by many that we need to have young people involved in the town,” commented Mr. Ouellet after the election.

“My priorities will be listening to people, and taking the advice of the other councillors while I’m learning. I’d like to thank everyone who encouraged me and came out and supported me,” concluded the new councillor. A total of 450 votes were cast – not bad for a by-election in a town of only 2,800!
