Estria’s new season
TheEstria Woodwind Quintet and the Uplands Chamber Players are proud to unveil their 2015-2016 season of events which will include 9 productions and 16 presentations in the municipalities of Sherbrooke and North Hatley.
The 2015-2016 season will see the return of the lecture-concert series entitled Autumn Genius, which honours composers and performers who created their best works at a later age. Like last year, these events are free for seniors and they include either a light lunch after the 11 am presentation at the UU Estrie Church (North Hatley) or an afternoon tea after the 3 pm presentation at the Uplands Cultural and Heritage Centre (Sherbrooke). In 2015-2016 the series will honour Camille Saint-Saëns (Nov 13th at 11 am and 3 pm), Freddy Cole (Dec 11th at 11 am and 3 pm), Florent Schmitt ( Feb 5th at 11 am and 3 pm), and Jacques-Jules Bouffil (March 4th at 11 am and 3 pm).
The lectures in October and February will be given in French and those in November, December and March will be given in English. The Autumn Genius events are presented in collaboration with the UU Estrie Church in North Hatley, the Uplands Cultural and Heritage Centre in Sherbrooke and with others sponsors. Reservations for this free series are mandatory as places are very very limited (firstname.lastname@example.org).
The musicians of Estria and Uplands will be presenting four musical productions. The Beauty of Baroque, with works by Handel, Scarlatti and Bach, played on period instruments like the harpsichord and the chalumeau, will take place on Saturday October 24th at 3 pm at the Uplands Cultural and Heritage Centre (Sherbrooke) and Sunday October 25th at 3 pm at St. Elizabeth’s Church (North Hatley).
The big Christmas Concert, with all of Estria & Uplands’ musicians, as well as the choir Les Voix Libres, will take place only once on Saturday December 19th at 3 pm at St. Elizabeth’s Church (North Hatley). On this special occasion, everyone can hear arrangements of The Nutcracker by Tchaikovsky, as well as traditional great works for choir by Handel and Bach. At the end of the evening, the participation of the audience will be required in a big sing-a-long.
