The Gaiters women’s rugby team closed out their 2015 campaign at McGill on Thursday night. In a torrential downpour, Bishop’s fell 36-7. Rachel Berube (Worcester, Mass.) scored the try for the Gaiters and it was converted by Taylor Merrithew (Kingston, Ont.). Despite going winless on the year Bishop’s will take many positives out of the season.

The reigning RSEQ Champion Bishop’s Gaiters men’s basketball team started to return to form over a three game stretch this past weekend. They were in Ottawa for the House Laughton Tournament hosted by the Carleton Ravens. Bishop’s started well with victories over the University of Toronto (81-76) and Acadia University (79-68). Their 2-0 record set up what ended up being the tournament championship against the host and five-time defending CIS Champion Carleton Ravens on Sunday. The hosts won 88-60 to claim the title but Bishop’s walks away with two victories and a confidence moving forward. They are in southern Ontario for another exhibition tournament next weekend.

While men’s basketball headed west, the women’s basketball team made the long trek to Charlottetown for the Mickey Place Memorial Tournament. Bishop’s played a trio of contests against UPEI, Acadia and the University of Ottawa. They dropped all three but competed in each up until the final minutes. Friday it was a 62-58 loss to host UPEI, Saturday they fell 73-65 to Acadia and Sunday Ottawa got the best of them by a 57-40 mark.

The women’s team will also travel to southern Ontario for exhibition competition next weekend.
