Bishop’s Univer­sity Re­ceives A Pres­ti­gious En­vi­ron­men­tal Award

Bishop’sUniver­sity re­ceived a Pilier d’Or award from the As­so­ci­a­tion des ges­tion­naires des parcs im­mo­biliers in­sti­tu­tion­nels (AGPI) for its en­ergy ef­fi­ciency project.

This $8M project is ex­pected to pro­vide en­ergy sav­ings of 40,656 gi­ga­joules (GJ), for an­nual sav­ings of roughly $472,000. From an en­vi­ron­men­tal per­spec­tive, a 40,656 GJ re­duc­tion would be equiv­a­lent to: Re­duc­ing CO2 emis­sions by 2,364 an­nu­ally Heat­ing ap­prox­i­mately 350 dwellings of 2000 sq. ft. Plant­ing roughly 13,906 trees This project was car­ried out by the Univer­sity’s Build­ings and Grounds Depart­ment, in col­lab­o­ra­tion with an ex­ter­nal firm. The project was funded by a cap­i­tal in­vest­ment grant from Que­bec’s Min­istry of Ed­u­ca­tion, through the Plan quin­quen­nal des in­vestisse­ments univer­si­taires (PQI).

Each year, this award is given to an institution for a project sub­mit­ted in the tech­ni­cal and in­no­va­tion cat­e­gory.

In the same award cer­e­mony, Michel Caron, the re­cently re­tired Di­rec­tor of the Build­ings and Grounds Depart­ment, re­ceived an award in recog­ni­tion of his con­tri­bu­tions as an in­sti­tu­tional property man­ager.
