Police News – Winter driving takes heavy toll
Last Tuesday, January 5th, a violent accident took place on the Stage Road in Stanstead East when a young female driver swerved into the oncoming lane at a curve and was hit by a van coming in the opposite direction. The young woman of eighteen was badly hurt and taken to the hospital. The driver of the van was also hurt, not as seriously, and taken to the hospital. Later in the day, a man was badly hurt in a car accident on the Lapierre Road, in Ogden, when his car spun out and hit a tree. The road was closed for five hours.
There have been many reports of vehicle collisions with deer on the roads of the Memphremagog and Coaticook MRCs in the past two weeks and drivers are being cautioned to be extra vigilant.
The Regie de police Memphremagog (RPM) is still looking for the suspects in the theft of bags of clothes from the Magog family counter. Cameras set up at the site captured these images: a purple electric bicycle driven by a young adult male, dressed in jeans and a I LOVE NEW YORK shirt; and a pale grey Dodge Caravan and a large woman in her thirties wearing a white shirt, black pants, and a young thin woman wearing jeans and a beige coat and hat.
