Taxes go down in Canton Hatley and Ste-Catherine

Stanstead Journal - - NEWS BRIEF - Victoria Vanier Canton Hatley, Ste-Catherine

The municipality of Hatley Township has decreased its mill rate for the 5th year in a row, going down by 5.6% for 2016. The average house, valued at $350,000, will have a bill of $1,979, a decrease of roughly $112. This year’s big project will be to move the Town Hall to the former Mont Joie, now called Mont Hatley, ski centre.

Over in Ste-Catherine-de-Hatley, the decrease in the tax bill will be a little more modest, about twelve cents for the average home, valued at $300,000. That bill will be around $1,566. The town’s budget for 2016 is $3.57 million. About $833,000 of that will be used to repair the town’s roads network, including a part of the North Hatley Road.
