It’s a toss-up which is crueller – April or January. But here’s a kind cut in the midst of this January: In a coffee house ambiance, a cast of 14 are putting on a theatrical reading of The Cruellest Month. It’s a radio play, complete with sound effects, based on the well-known novel by Townships mystery writer Louise Penny, and adapted by playwright Eric Alexandre.

Two performances are planned, one on Friday, January 22, and the other on Saturday, January 23, both at 7 p.m., at UUEstrie, 201 Main Street, North Hatley. All the proceeds go to benefit UUEstrie and two local Syrian refugee initiatives.

The play director, Phyllis Baxter, has a cast that includes some well-known names in the area. In order of appearance, they are Esther Saanum, Susan Macaulay, contd page
