Sherbrooke wants Central Maine & Quebec out

Stanstead Journal - - LENOXVILLE NEWS - Sherbrooke

the coming days, the City of Sherbrooke will be asking the Central Maine & Quebec Railway company to stop storing and handling train cars on the rail loop line parallel to Venise and de la Riviere streets, in the Rock Forest-Saint-Elie-Deauville Borough.

municipal council made this decision because of the noise caused by the movement of the wagons, which was disturbing the peace of citizens, and because of the risks associated with the parking and handling of rail cars in an urban setting. The residents are also worried about the common occurrence of dangerous products. Moreover, these railcars cause visual pollution and traffic problems.

use of this loop line by Central Maine & Quebec Railway has been going on for about a year, just after the acquisition of this portion of rail line that was once used by Montreal Maine & Atlantic.
