UMQ welcomes new Minister of Municipal Affairs
Suzanne Roy, the president of the Union des municipalites du Quebec (UMQ), congratulates the new Minister of Municipal Affairs and the Occupation of Territory, Martin Coiteux, and assures him of the collaboration of the UMQ. Important work is presently underway for the future of municipalities, notably the Loi sur les gouvernements de proximite et de la revision du cadre des relations du travail, and the president is happy to be able to count on a Minister with experience. The UMQ also congratulates all the new members of the Cabinet and recognizes the contribution of Minister Pierre Moreau .
This reshuffling of Cabinet will give new life to economic development with the nomination of Dominique Anglade in the position of Minister of the Economy and Lise Theriault as Minister of regional economic development. The UMQ would like to reiterate its message already communicated to the Minister of Finance regarding the pre-budgetary consultations, and that it is urgent to put in place the Fonds Chantiers Canada-Quebec (FCCQ). Launched in April of 2014, the FCCQ grants to Quebec more than $1.6 billion to finance infrastructure projects. More than two years have passed and no projects have begun. “Dozens of municipal projects are ready to get started and will generate economic activity in all regions of Quebec. I believe that the Quebec economy cannot pass up this essential lever. In this context, I invite the members of the new Cabinet to deliberate quickly on this question,” added the president of the UMQ.
Ms. Roy hopes to continue her collaboration with the Minister of the environment, David Heurtel. “Since the summit on climate change held in Paris in December, the UMQ has continued its leadership on the subject. I invite Minister Heurtel to the important forum on climate change that the UMQ is organizing for May 13th,” concluded Ms. Roy.
