25th annual art auction for Alzheimer Society
The Société Alzheimer de l’Estrie (SAE) will be holding its annual Decouvr’Art art auction on Wednesday, March 9th, at the Centre de foires de Sherbrooke. Over two hundred and fifty guests are expected for the event which will also celebrate the SAE’s first thirty years.
Starting at 5:00 pm, the evening will begin with a cocktail hour during which guests can look at the over 45 works of art and take part in a silent auction, followed by a gourmet meal, prepared by chef Patrice Fournier of Le Poivon Rouge. After the dinner, the art will be auctioned off by none other than the ‘Colombo of Art’, Alain Lacoursiere.
The evening will also include beer and tea tastings, prize drawings, and the creation on site of a painting by artist Catherine Landry, with help from the invited guests.
The SAE hopes to raise $50,000 with the event, money that will be used to offer services directly to people living with Alzheimer’s Disease and their care-givers.
Right now, there are 120,000 Quebecers living with Alzheimer’s Disease, a number that is expected to double by 2030. In the Estrie region, there are 5000 people with the disease and, per person, two or three family members who provide care.

Seen here to launch the annual art auction are (l. to r.) honorary co-presidents of the event businessman and artist Raphael Zweidler, businesswoman Lise Geoffrey, and SAE general director Caroline Giguere.
