25th an­nual art auc­tion for Alzheimer So­ci­ety

The So­ciété Alzheimer de l’Estrie (SAE) will be hold­ing its an­nual De­couvr’Art art auc­tion on Wed­nes­day, March 9th, at the Cen­tre de foires de Sher­brooke. Over two hun­dred and fifty guests are ex­pected for the event which will also cel­e­brate the SAE’s first thirty years.

Start­ing at 5:00 pm, the evening will be­gin with a cock­tail hour dur­ing which guests can look at the over 45 works of art and take part in a silent auc­tion, fol­lowed by a gourmet meal, pre­pared by chef Pa­trice Fournier of Le Poivon Rouge. Af­ter the din­ner, the art will be auc­tioned off by none other than the ‘Colombo of Art’, Alain La­cour­siere.

The evening will also in­clude beer and tea tast­ings, prize draw­ings, and the cre­ation on site of a paint­ing by artist Cather­ine Landry, with help from the in­vited guests.

The SAE hopes to raise $50,000 with the event, money that will be used to of­fer ser­vices di­rectly to peo­ple liv­ing with Alzheimer’s Dis­ease and their care-givers.

Right now, there are 120,000 Que­be­cers liv­ing with Alzheimer’s Dis­ease, a num­ber that is ex­pected to dou­ble by 2030. In the Estrie re­gion, there are 5000 peo­ple with the dis­ease and, per per­son, two or three fam­ily mem­bers who pro­vide care.
