Wit­nesses needed in court case

When the United States be­gan en­forc­ing its FATCA (For­eign Ac­count Tax Com­pli­ance Act) law a few years ago, many res­i­dents liv­ing in the Stanstead re­gion found them­selves in a bad situation. If they were born in the United States, they now had to sup­ply the United States gov­ern­ment with their fi­nan­cial in­for­ma­tion as well as fill out United States in­come tax forms. The for­mer Con­ser­va­tive gov­ern­ment passed a law that forced Cana­dian banks to hand over the pri­vate fi­nan­cial in­for­ma­tion of its cit­i­zens to the U.S. In­ter­nal Rev­enue Ser­vice (IRS), if they are deemed to be U.S. cit­i­zens.
