Georgeville resident Judy Bachelder was honored by the Quebec government, in April, for her many years of volunteering when she received the Hommage Benevolat-Quebec award. The prestigious award recognizes people who have made substantial contributions to improve the quality of life of citizens in their community.

Mrs. Bachelder helped establish the network of volunteer drivers for the Meals-on-Wheels program, organized many activities and fundraisers for the Canadian Cancer Society, works with the local Georgeville United Church and created a community newsletter.

Two other Townshippers, Veronick Beaumont and Melanie Lemay, also received the award in the youth volunteering category. “I am extremely proud of Ms. Beaumont, Lemay and Bachelder! They contribute undeniably to the well-being of our community. It is their huge generosity that our government would like to recognize by awarding them the Hommage Benevolat-Quebec,” commented Sherbrooke deputy Luc Fortin.
