Fire destroy part of Viens piggery

Stanstead Journal - - NEWS - Staff

Afire that could be seen kilometers away destroyed part of the Viens piggery on route 143 in Stanstead East late yesterday afternoon. This photo taken on Brown’s Hill road shows the extent of the fire. As we left, rudely invited to do so, ‘Journalist are only bad news’, we were told, Ayer’s Cliff firefighter were arriving, joining Stanstead’s and Stanstead Township already on the scene.

As power was still activating one of the connected barn fans, we could see smoke coming out of it and the panicky sound of the pigs inside of it while firemen were trying to squelch the fire and secure the area where at least half a dozen propane tanks are located.
