The 49th Annual General Meeting Of Memphremagog Conservation Inc. (MCI)
On July 9, MCI theld their 49th annual general meeting at the Cherry River Wetlands Interpretation Centre in Magog. The meeting aimed to bring the members up to date with the activities and actions undertaken by MCI in 2015-2016, and to give members the chance to influence the future direction of the organization on the eve of it’s 50th anniversary, especially given that the organization is currently undergoing a strategic planning exercise to position itself for the next 50 years. Summary Of Actions Taken By MCI In 2015-2016
The major accomplishments of MCI in the preservation of the health of Lake Memphremagog and its watershed were presented. As part of the Healthy Fitch Bay project, MCI has worked with the municipalities of Stanstead Township and Ogden to put in place an action plan aiming to improve the quality of the water in Fitch Bay. In the past year, MCI and its partners have identified erosion sites along the bay’s tributaries, sensitized boaters and residents of the area to the problems facing the bay, and produced an inventory of the natural landscapes of the bay’s watershed. As well, MCI continues to work with property owners on voluntary conservation of the natural landscapes on their land. Since 2009, MCI has been involved in the protection of 777 hectares in the Lake Memphremagog watershed. MCI’s lake patrol
continues to work to sensitize the public of the importance of protecting the lake, patrols the lake seven days a week, and carries out a water sampling program to document the quality of the water. They can be reached 7 days a week at 819 6203939 or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org
